the iconic seba returns to fokuz recordings for the corners / second path single featuring jr vallo. two dreamy, distinguished cuts with that sound so recognizable to the swedish drum & bass producer.

to the untrained ear a collaboration between mosaic boss steve o sullivan and minimal house maestro ricardo villalobos may not seem like the most obvious sound clash. however, dig a little deeper and you ll find that both these artists have a long history and shared love of stripped back aesthetics and dubbed out rhythms carving out respective sounds that have never strayed far from their roots. sullric is the result of a daylong session at the end of 2016 where the pair plugged in, switched on and set everything to cycle: recording several hours worth of material to tape with an edit of their favourite passage worked into two versions in post-production.

any disco dj worth their weight in vinyl knows the name donnell pitman, and until now this has been mostly due to his highly sought after work of the late 70s and early 80s. renewed interest in donnell has reached critical peak over the past few years, fueled by red greg’s feature of donnell’s seminal “love explosion” on joey negro’s under the influence vinyl compilation series and chicago’s numero group putting out long forgotten, unreleased boogie bangers “burning up” and “taste of honey” in 2015.
it was this refreshed enthusiasm that caught the attention of producer kumar mcmillian of chicago-based disco ensemble wings of sunshine. kumar’s group was looking for another vocal collaborator following their 7” debut release on star creature records. a casual introduction led to an informal studio session between the two culminating in a modern disco masterpiece.

the fourth hotflush release of 2017 comes from minneapolis-based dj and producer, tml. he made his debut in 2014 with one inch of water, an album in cassette form via always human tapes. his style takes cues from the bass and jungle halcyon days of yore, yet in his hands these influences are pestled into anything but nostalgia. no memory looks forward to a place where pigeonholes don’t exist, where past, present and future boil an amalgamated stew, where ‘experimental’ and ‘clubby’ aren’t effective antonyms. it’s an album in miniature - six tracks spanning a broad range. the unmistakable taste of jungle pervades side a, becoming increasingly less abstract as it goes: from the fractured opening of ‘face pads’, through the dub of ‘cold sleep’, to the sunrise head bang that is ‘crying’. side two moves inside. it’s darker there. the tunes - ’strainer’, ‘rhu’ and ‘code library’ - share a paredbackness. their beats look askance as they shuffle big and bold.

exhibiting a solid background as a mastering engineer, inner lakes has spent quite some years locked in his studio (located between two of the biggest internal lakes in the north of italy), to perfect his vast experimental sound. the use of modular synths, modified machines and sequencers is prevalent throughout his work. defined in his own words as a -contemporary dj tool- the forthcoming four tracker debut ep is set to be released via vae victis records. the record is far from just a tool with multilayered textures encompassed in dreamy soundscapes and a heavy driving energy throughout. his perfection in his work and passion for all things sound are a major catalyst for his sets. a mixture of unreleased material, futuristic sounds and hard hitting classics is what you can expect.

psychemagik are back after a brief hiatus with two solid disco floor burners, the first track gotta hold on me a 12 mins plus hypnotic, soulful disco jam that gets deep under the skin with a groove that gives no mercy. the flip wildman smacks hard with sleazy vocals and a mesmerising rhodes hook, given a contemporary twist with a subtle kick n snare, this 12inch packs serious heat! perfect late night shenanigans.

next up on accidental jnr are 2 club ready tracks from sydney producer cassius select that straddle genres somewhere between techno, bassline and hardcore. 90 is a gurgling brutal post-dubstep wobble fest at a house tempo whilst herd offers up select’s trademark idiosyncratic vocal snippets wrapped up in most broken and shuffled of techno rhythm . cassius select lives in the undefined sonic boroughs of the hardcore continuum. his first ep explored the grittier end of techno under australian label hunter gatherer followed by a 12- of unstable rhythm workouts under dj haus’ uttu label. the toronto native is hell bent on inciting movement in the most unorthodox ways. sonics crush genre-defining sounds into a pastiche of cryptic one liners and side eyes. drums that invoke an impossible sense of swing and momentum. most importantly select’s sound defines itself on the mission to deconstruct the world around him,to level out the playing field so everyone can have a bite. this year, select joins with uk imprint accidental jr. to release a two-track fury of sound that snarls with every grimace.

holding hands is blasting off with a bang of cosmic proportions, featuring two cuts from desert sound colony’s dance floor alter ego ‘dsc’. far reaching, as its name suggests, takes inspiration from the deep well of our musical past. drum & bass, jungle, breaks, house and hardcore are all present. that being said, this is not just a revival record. these sounds combined take your mind out of the past and place it firmly in a previously unimagined future. hard as nails to begin with, the track eventually builds to a glorious rapture. too hard is deep like the mariana trench and made for dance floor meditation. kicks rock you back and forth as a soft canvas of pads drapes itself over your mind. space is the place people, space is the place. both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. they want big sound systems and dark rooms. close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight…

ibiza resident and darling of the white isle, davina moss returns once more to hot creations. having released on jamie and lee’s imprint in 2015, moss returns with two original cuts whilst cuartero supplies the remix. oh mama opens with tribal rhythms and a driving energy set against the enticing vocals of issa elle while like a proper star concludes with a dynamism and groove reminiscent of ibiza’s hedonistic parties. best newcomer at the dj mag awards in 2015, cuartero transforms oh mama into an after party dream drenched in rolling drums. the spanish dj and producer is no stranger to hot creations having previously released twice on the label. davina moss has been producing and djing for over a decade with a musical career that has allowed her to travel the world and release on a variety of labels, including viva music, pacha recordings, upon you and do not sleep among others.

norwegian duo ost & kjex make a welcomed return to crosstown rebels with a heady club cover of princes dirty mind, with a stella remix by seven davis jr. on the flip. after label boss damian lazarus asked why they hadnt sent any new music lately, talented pair ost & kjex made it their mission to make a new release for crosstown after 8 years. delivering the goods, dirty mind is a minimalistic bomb with pulsating beats and soaring synths that lead you deep into the night. ost & kjex are responsible for the huge crosstown releases how not to be a biscuit and anthem summertime with jamie jones. the duo has been releasing music for over a decade with two albums under their belt and notable releases on solomun’s diynamic amongst others. best known for his releases on classic and ninja tune, seven davis jr. is s huge prince fan and is a fitting remixer for this cover, he delivers a sleazy take on the original with a killer bassline.

paul woolford has been seriously spreading his wings of late, becoming omni-present by landing his tracks with ease on labels like xl recordings, running back, houndstooth, hotflush and aus music. not wanting to be shackled by genres, paul comfortably serves up a wide variety of curveballs, from the technoid charge of his 4/4 persuasions to the exhilarating warped hardcore & jungle breaks of his much loved special request project. and so it’s with welcome arms that edible usher him to our release schedule, give him the comfy sofa and let him rip it up with two havoc-inducing cuts that are already a staple in label boss eats everything’s dj sets. title track ‘chaos’ finds paul in a particularly warped mode, bleepy synth pulses oscillate wildly over a granite hard beat as a single sub-bass tone drives the brain-scrambling flurry of modular tones into overdrive. a hydrochloric synth riff settles the bed, but only until the next haul of chaotic blips come firing out of the speakers - highly effective, and possibly deranged warehouse tackle. a future classic. flip side, and woolford shows off some decidedly more soulful chops on ‘meditate . a vocal hook plays against a dubwise bass line and ascending 909 rides, as a seductive and transcendental string arpeggio creeps to the fore and demands a breakdown of its own, serving up a serious bucket load of emotion. not a dry eye in the house.

unearthed by groove archeologist betino errera, this black gem was cut in paris in 1980 by american vocalist robert helms. his french career being rather confidential with releases under his own name as well as bobby helms or simply bobby, the lay down girl album remained a well-kept secret for decades despite the fact that it contained two very strong disco-funk tunes.

brian tennessee claflin, aka prix, was a radical and fiery figure who worked on the intersecting fringes of berlins art and nightlife scenes since he moved there in 2006 up until his tragic death in 2014 at the age of 33. he ran the notorious sunday soirée pork at ficken3000, and left behind a small but very powerful body of art, developing a cult following of friends, family, and fans in a brief but intense period of frenetic activity. between 2009 and 2013, brian and his friend, the american cum berlin musician and producer snax, produced music and sound collages. all these productions met somewhere at the intersection of dance, voodoo, bitchiness and punk and several were used for brians performance pieces. the brian tennessee claflin foundation and snaxs random records are very proud to finally release two tracks from these sessions, as well as remixes, digital and as vinyl ep, in a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies.

afrika bambaataa, rapper, producer, dj from the south bronx, new york. afrika bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat djing and is respectfully known as the godfather of zulu nation and amen ra of hip hop culture. in 2007 has been nominated for induction into the rock hall of fame and in 2008 he has been honored by the bronx museum of arts. afrika bambaataa’s long career is pointed by many hits and masterpieces such as reckless, unity, just get up and dance and pupunanny. countless collaborations with artists such as ub40, james brown, boy george, leftfield just to name few of them. afrika bambaataa has recorded with many labels from tommy boy to capitol records and profile but it is with the italian label dfc (expanded music) that he has releases most of his recordings. bring it up is the new release on dfc label produced by dj/producer paul carpenter. this release includes three versions in big room/edm style along with a mega-mix and a full acapella collection of all previous recordings released by bambaataa on dfc label. two lyrics videos come to support the release.

the remixed tracks from ascetic’s second album ‘everything is becoming’ are a collision between industrial techno, ebm influenced bass lines, doom and dark ambient. four berlin based artists: ancient methods, phase fatale, unhuman & luna violenta offer their take on the two opening tracks ‘utterings’ and ‘exegesis’ from the album. roared vocals, guitar both jagged, creepy and ambient, live drums and samples are all melted down and reformed into at times recognizable and at times wholly alien compositions, ancient methods, phase fatale and unhuman offer different approaches to techno punishment while luna’s interpretation is a cacophonous build that explodes into sonic abstraction. this ep is a perfect example of what berlin does so well, where genres that share aesthetic values feedback, overlap and inspire.

12inch sleeve designed and hand screen printed by alex from cassegrain. arcing seas is back with arcs-03, a unique ep of selected tracks from the first two releases, remixed by the mover, peder mannerfelt and shifted. first up, rave and techno legend the mover presents his first new material since 2009. after using the slogan “see you in 2017&#8243,,,, for years before, this marks the start his return. he turns trappist into a hard hitting electro workout using original parts that explode and punish the senses. peder mannerfelt introduces the b-side with his take on skull gun. broken beats and exciting percus-sion sit atop deep kicks, disorientating quick fire samples and rapid snares, showing how versatile and on-point he is. finally, shifted is called into action with a signature deep-sonic soundscape. rumbling kicks and high frequency textures occupy the sound field, alongside reverberating samples from vultures, making it his own. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name.

for the labels ninth release, deep a & biris black crow records revisits one that helped establish the labels direction back in the imprints first year. bcr003, insular realms by fellow israeli producer hakimonu, was praised by many including resident advisor, who said the ep proved his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever. now in 2017, deepa & biri have invited mind against, luigi tozzi and echologist (aka dub techno veteran brendon moeller) to all rework the original version of insular realms for 2017. first up are life & death’s mind against, with one of the fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes. luigi tozzi, the rome-based producer who has had previous outings on dynamic reflection and dino sabatinis outis music, contributes the second remix. taking the lead from the originals more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm. the b-side offers two takes from brendon moeller in his echologist guise, with a dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.

twr72 is back with a full new story starring lucid as the lead. lucid dropped out of space on a world called planet earth. it’s luminous and vivid appearance were instantly clear. at first lucid was a bit reserved but during it’s first steps it opened up and showed some colorful emotions and hints of it’s personality. with detailed patterns of communication lucid tried to find a way through this new world. erudite, which was already for a more prolonged time on planet earth, picked up the incomprehensible code from lucid and reproduced it into a solid and clever message. erudite was keen enough to think of a way to communicate back with lucid as it noticed lucid needed help. but it needed someone else to bring the message to lucid. so erudite asked help from colloquial who could easily transcript the message back to lucid. colloquial used different types of frequencies to connect to lucid, but it wasn’t that easy. lucid already travelled further and was hard to reach. therefor colloquial tried to use heavier elements to make a more solid composition. unfortunately not only positive things arrived from space. aporia was a rather negative influence which disturbed the link between colloquial and lucid. aporia tried to force the communication by continuously changing the elements of the message. but it wasn’t all that bad, because at the end aporia brought the two important elements of the message together.

pilocka krach still means nothing but pilocka noise. she’s the charming queen of berlins post techno underground and a true recording & perfoming artist. her new release on her very own imprint greatest hits international is a conceptional framed double vinyl album and a journey diary of her last two years on tour around the globe, with mexico, detroit and her hometown roots in berlin as fixpoints on her neverending agenda. pilocka krach is „sugar cane“ & „the lost amigos“, her band and all at once.

new first time on a 45 series from mukatsuku which will focus on tracks which never made it to a 7 inch single in their own right. first up the three pieces with a sublime track taken from the 1975 fantasy album “vibes of truth”. on the flipside also from 1975 johnny hammond delivers the much sampled club favourite “tell me what to do” from the legendary “gears” album from milestone which also gave us “shifting gears”, “los conquistadores chocolates” & “can’t we smile”. two classics on a dinked friendly format. limited pressing. don’t sleep!

thus far lost city of atlantis has been spotted on just one 12-, released on emotions electric two years ago and supposedly the handiwork of a producer active in the late 80s between new york and detroit. whether the providence is correct or not hardly matters, the most important thing is the quality of the tunes, and on this new release for slow town there s an abundance of hardware delights to get freaky to. -secret code of 7- is a particularly bugging synth jam, while -four- piles the swinging funk on heavy. this is certainly rough and ready house music, whenever and wherever it was made.

boasting two tracks of seamless tonal fluidity, demanding attention while flouting expectations. oj2s complementary offerings of meticulously produced percussion and melodic meanderings never sit still, though they ultimately gratify. other joys to come.

breakthrough artist mihail ps debut presents two stunning original tracks alongside mixes by young hungarian wizard gnork and the labels own hutton drive aka domenic cappello, also of glasgows fabled sub club.

one of two very limited samplers of the datafunk 2.0 project. due to the project being considerably delayed a couple of artists pulled their tracks so abstract forms has decided to split the remainder of the project into two 12- samplers instead. 150 copies of each.

dj haus (the hardest working man in show business!) teams up with mak & pasteman for our landmark quarter century release!!! how the hell did that happen? we only expected to manage about 4 releases tops? we are really proud to welcome these guys to the ever expanding dabj family, and they have not let us down with this first release... the title track and -bang it- are room shaking heavy bass numbers, which we have been rinsing for almost a year now... drive mf sounds like paul johnson and daniel bell -stuck in an elevator- (or some other bullshit analogy like that...). all 3 tracks = essential. period. -buy on sight- etc etc... carefully hand stamped by the two slackest men in show business (or at least one of them anyway...)

the third release of the vinyl only label another earth is upon us and its all about techno. esther duijn combines 2 acts together in a split ep series which compliment each others sound. for this release esther selected two notorious european techno producers she adores, opuswerk and lee holman. on the a side opuswerk delivers 2 deep driving techno tracks. rf thruster basically expands from beginning to end. this constant propulsion has a deep impact on any dance floor. he drew inspiration from jeff mills and planetary assault systems for this particular track. emdrive starts with an atmospheric intro and morphs into one epic build up that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. on the flip side lee holman bangs 2 deep and firm techno grooves like there is no tomorrow. while adaptive optics is rough on the edges it does pay attention to small details which make the track very dynamic. absorption lines puts the emphasis on a warmer atmosphere. with this track you can transform anything into a pulsating hot mass, according to esther

trusme gets the remix treatment from answer code request, ben sims & pangaea. this is the first of two eps featuring remixes of tracks from the trusme planet 4 album. answer code request takes our future into new territory with two outstanding mixes. remix 1 moves things to a much more sinister & foreboding place. tightening the feel & tension of the original with all the hallmarks of classic berlin techno. remix 2 winds up & coils the track into a searing workout of early 90s hardcore breakbeat. ben sims takes control of ring round heart, pushing the tempo & creating a whole new urgency in the track. this is proper no nonsense heads down business & tight as you like. the mix builds excellently well & manages to produce an epic amount of feel and emotion, dropping in & out of the groove with a sneaky breakbeat & vocal dubs. pangaea tackles one of the albums more esoteric tracks in the unexplained. he manages to work a wonderfully intriguing steppers beat which drops from nowhere after the highly beguiling metronomic extended opening. the tracks are getting plenty of play & plaudits from likes of ben ufo, dj deep, bicep & anthony parasole.

the latest outing on will & ink is a remix ep that finds parisian producers bambounou and simo cell team up for four reworked versions of yaleesa halls woodall lp. both artists are known for their releases on 50 weapons, livity sound and wisdom teeth. right here, on will & ink, two solo outings with another two collaborated remixes on the b-side showcase their dubbed out, stripped back and paranoid dark parisian trademark sound. their very specific sound sounds like little else and is a solid match with yaleesa hall and the amsterdam imprint as this ep proves.

one of the very first artists to begin recording in jamaica, derrick morgan is beloved as a ska icon and a pioneer of the ‘skinhead reggae’ style. blessed with a rich, deep tenor, which with he belts out his clever and often humorous lyrics, morgan became known on the kingston music scene through vere johns’ regular talent contests, and enjoyed a lengthy run of hits during the 1960s for producers such as simeon smith, duke reid and clement ‘sir coxsone’ dodd (among others), cultivating a popular vinyl feud with prince buster after being brought into leslie kong’s camp by the young jimmy cliff. morgan moved to england during the late 1960s to capitalise on the skinhead reggae craze, but was back in jamaica from the early 1970s, and since bunny lee was his brother-in-law, the two have always maintained a close working relationship. people decision, voiced at king tubby’s studio for lee and released by third world in 1977, sees morgan in politicised roots reggae mode on songs like ‘let’s build a better jamaica,’ the symbolic racetrack drama ‘racing at ballistic park,’ and the title track, which all boosted the socialist policies of the ruling people’s national party, ‘natty dread forward out of babylon’ updates the ‘tougher than tough’ saga, and there’s a slew of rude tunes when you flip the disc, including ‘my dickie,’ ‘rough grinder’ and ‘ride manny fanny.’

chances are if you have a body, a pair of ears and access to some kind of listening device, you’ve at least tapped a foot to ‘shine’ from soul clap and nona hendryx. pure authenticity and vocal integrity is provided in bucket loads by nona (ex-labelle member and purveyor of funk for more than 40 years), while the production maintains soul clap’s sublime freshness. increasing your marimba intake by 200% with two additional versions, hot toddy gives exotic plushness with a diversified rhythm section and melodic bottom lines that lightly entwine, shimmering in the light of nonas voice. scott grooves brings the funk, with an upfront bassline and extra jb-style horns on his horns dub, while the deepah dub takes a housier approach while still keeping the horn stabs. scott finishes off with an echopella of nonas vocals recorded from the international space station. this remix package is everything you would want, and then some.
